How a Hairstylist deals with Their personal problems at the Hair Salon

HairStylist are people too at the Hair Salon

Don’t we all have problems?

When trouble comes into our lives we still have to go to work. Most of us can put our problems aside until the workday is over.

Good luck with that approach in a hair salon. Hair salons are all about talking and sharing problems. We vent about everything from family problems, marriage problems, our kids, and work problems.

Please, don’t think it’s all negative talk every day. Surely when a client or one of our team is down, we all swarm in to lend an ear.

The saying, “what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” applies at Bella ~Bella Hair Salon as well. Our lips are sealed. I like to think over the years we have heard it all. You would be surprised we haven’t. Life is crazier now than ever, who thought we’d be in a pandemic? - STILL -Really?

I’ll let you in on something personal. I know how to come into work and say good morning with the most positive tone. At that moment I say, “good morning” I shut the back door -leaving my problems behind me on the step.

Honestly though when something big is going wrong in my life, I will talk about it. It’s hard not to- when your clients ask how you are, and they can feel something is wrong.

I feel sorry for the team when I have a personal issue. If I have 10 or 20 clients that day, my team hears the same story 10 or 20 times with each client. Not pleasant for the team or me I honestly give MYSELF a headache.

Another issue with bringing personal problems to work is, as a stylist you don’t want to appear “off.” You never want the client to feel that you are emotionally unable to perform and mess their hair up! You must not let them feel you are not in control of yourself.

Finally, remember that it is never good to bring problems into the workplace. I feel so privileged to be in an industry that accepts sharing feelings and emotions when personal troubles arise. I am so blessed to have clients that share their problems and allow me to do the same...

The best advice I have ever gotten or given is, “this too shall pass.” You can bank on that! Yes, you can.
